I started a Patreon account. Patreon is like Kickstarter except instead of raising one round of funds for one specific goal or project, Patreon supports ongoing projects -- like blogging -- over time. You can choose an amount ($1 is a great amount!) to donate with each new post I do. You can set up a monthly maximum to make sure you never go over-budget. You can also donate set amounts to become my Patron. As my Patron, you can receive rewards like having your individual questions answered on my blog, requesting specific content, or sharing your story for me to highlight on my page.
Let's say you donated $1 per post and I did 3 posts per week. This would add up to $12 a month or $144 per year. People outside the writing community are often very surprised to learn that SO MUCH of what writers do is without pay or for very limited pay. Even my articles and essays that have been published in national publications and web sites have yielded very little monetary earnings for me.
I'm trying to do what I love, help other people along the way, and pay my bills in the process. Having a little income from Patreon would help me to buy the groceries I'd then use to fix healthy, creative recipes, which I'd then share on this blog. Having a little income from Patreon could potentially help me try new workouts and exercise classes, so I could then give you my thoughts and recommendations on this blog. Having a little income from Patreon could help me save up for a new laptop since my current one is falling apart. (Can you imagine if the tool you needed and used MOST for your job was falling apart on you?) Having a little income from Patreon could help buy me some time so I can focus on my true passion: writing books. It's oh-so-difficult to find time for my own writing when taking freelance jobs for publications that pay me (no matter how small the amount) is necessary. Help me break the chain and help me get ahead.
